I used red (or in this case green) rods with orange connectors and the smallest rod on top to support the back. The three small rods simply slip right into the two yellows on the side and the white in the middle.
This version is slightly taller and wider than the last one.
I used a hinge mechanism that would allow for all parts to fold virtually flat.

Another view of it folded flat. The grey rod that is not connected in the front is what I use to stabilize the front part of the stand (pictured next)
The grey rod simply slips into the three grey V connectors to keep them flat once the stand is set up
My largest cookbook is a Taste of Home binder. The holder was able to support it fairly easily. I noticed a little bit of strain on the lower front part, but it held up pretty well.
Let me know what you think of the revised knex build!
Thank you so much! This is amazing, I just finished building it and it's so thin! My girlfriend's law book fits well in the holder and she can bring it to classes in her backpack easily. The hinges and the stand mechanism is really creative! You must have spent a lot of time figuring this out.
ReplyDeleteThose law books are huge, so I am glad it withstood the test of a law book! I hadn't even considered the possibility of using it for school classes, but I am so glad it can help her out! Let me know if you have any other ideas you need help with! =D
DeleteJust wanted to send a warm thanks for your idea of this foldable stand. I've tried to make my own, but yours is just perfect.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I am getting a little bit sentimental, but this is a proof that the "old Internet" will be sorely missed. If this would have been done on a Facebook post, I've never found it. Nine years later, here it is...perfect!
Thanks a lot!
